Happy Friday blogging friends. It's my favorite day of the week :)

I'm actually in the middle of reading a great book called The Shack by William P. Young.
I normally don't read Christian Fiction, but my father told me he was going to mail me a copy of one of his favorite books and The Shack arrived at my house a few days later.

I've been hooked from page one and am pleasantly surprised so far with it. I've been unable to put it down and will probably finish it up this weekend.

Another thing I wanted to post was the award Paxton gave me. The Versatile Blogger Award. I'm honored!

Rules:

Give thanks to the person who nominated you. Thank you Pax!

List 7 things about yourself and pass the award on:

1. I'm a wife and a mother and my 14 year old son is already taller than me.

2. I am a sap. I tend to cry during movies, while reading books, when looking at old photographs and while reminiscing.

3. I love all things chocolate, but oddly enough, I really dislike chocolate ice cream.

4. I enjoy mafia movies. Scarface, Goodfellas and Godfather are among my favorites. I also enjoy quoting said movies. I do a mean Tony Montana.

5. I crochet, and have a linen closet full of yarn and crochet goodies like pattern books and hooks, instead of linens and towels.

6. I love Gone With the Wind, both the movie and the book.

7. Coldplay is one of my favorite music groups and Yellow is one of my favorite songs.

Give this award to 15 of your favorite bloggers

I know many of you have award free blogs and I totally understand. I'm passing this award on to the following blogs, do as you wish with it :) It was hard to narrow it down to just 15 so I added a few extra...

Dar,
Alice,
Wisteria,
Blodeuedd,
Suko,
Ceri,
HKatz,
Iliana,
Kat,
Scrap Girl,
Ms. Moonlight,
Melody,
Anna,
Lady Tink,
Kathleen,
Kelly, Yvonne, Jenners, Serena &
Nymeth

Enjoy your weekend everyone :)

Rhett Butler: This is an honorable proposal of marriage made at what I consider a most opportune moment. I can't go all my life waiting to catch you between husbands.

Scarlett: You're coarse, and you're conceited. And I think this conversation has gone far enough.

Happy Monday everyone. Don't mind my GWTW scene above, i've decided to re-read it and have been on a GWTW kick lately. I re-watched the movie this weekend, and may be having little GWTW related outbursts here and there. Don't mind me :)

Some great books arrived at my house these past few weeks.
Here's my Mailbox Mondays:

Twenty Love Poems and a Song of Despair by Pablo Neruda

I was introduced to Pablo Neruda by Kelly...aka...TheChicGeek. She posted one of Neruda's poems at her blog, and I knew I had to have this collection. Thanks Kelly!

Outlander by Diana Gabaldon. Funny enough, I wasn't even looking to buy a book, I was at one of those wholesale clubs where you can buy anything you want in BULK (including things you don't really need). So whenever I go to this place, I like to peruse thier book section. I saw Outlander and just grabbed it to read the back cover, when the nicest woman shyly approached me and said "You have got to read that book. It's amazing." She then proceeded to tell me that it's not her type of read, with romance and sci-fi involved, but someone gifted it to her and she loved it. So I took that as a sign, and finally bought my copy of Outlander. I've been meaning to read this one forever.

The Boleyn Inheritance by Philippa Gregory . I'm a big fan of this author and can't wait to jump into this book, I know it's going to be good.

And just because I wanted something scary to read and I enjoy older S.K.....

Cujo by Stephen King

Any good books arrive at your place lately?

And now for an award....

Many of us bloggers have our share of awards. You know how it is, these awards make their way around the blog-o-sphere. Well, i've made up a new award, and would like to pass it on to my blog friends. Don't feel pressured to pass it on or even blog about it, I know we are all busy bees and don't always have the time to blog about awards. Plus it's hard to keep track of where the awards came from...who gave them...etc. But I was playing around in my graphics program and came up with an award with my chihuahua Diego on it. I think it's cute, but hey, I am biased.

The #1 blogger award goes to:

yvonne, serena, joanne, chic geek, gingerkid,
nymeth, c.j., alice, samantha, jennifer, anna and the girl,
tink, wisteria, melody, mariel, historical tapestry, fyrefly, iliana, lisa, molly, bostonbibliophile, ms moonlight, jennygirl, scrap girl, paxton and dar.

If I forgot anyone, I am sorry. Feel free to take the award, pass it on...or not, it's up to you. But I do think you are all #1 Bloggers :)

Wednesday, January 28, 2009

I received a few more great awards recently ...thank you ladies. Right back at ya! You brightened my day :)

These come from Chic Geek:

I LOVE your blog! You write such great reviews and I love the fun names you call things :) It's a treat to visit your page every day!

and Tink.

And this one comes from Ruth:

for featuring some of the cutest pictures taken by her on her blog

And last but not least, another award I received comes from Sam, Illiana and Tena:

I would like to pass this award to....
Naida- because seriously she always has something to share, like great themes for the day, and since I am new to the world of blogging about books, I need help with these things! She has become one of my favorite blogs to read, so go visit her!!!

Thank you all again (((hugs)))

Saturday, January 10, 2009

Happy Saturday everyone. We are expecting a snow storm here today, so I have a good excuse to stay home crocheting and reading :)

I've received a few awards this past week and wanted to share:

Tena, whose blog I recently discovered and have been visiting often, because it's awesome over there...gave me the pretty Butterfly Award. Thanks Tena! If you haven't stopped by her blog, do so...right now...check out her fun blog setup and title...Crazy Book Slut. It's great!

Anna has also passed the Butterfly Award to me. Thank you Anna! Your blog is always a pleasure to visit. If you haven't stopped by her blog, you are missing out. Anna has some wonderful book reviews and always keeps things interesting over there. And she's a knitter as well :) Even her sweet daughter (The Girl) posts book reviews at her blog.

LadyTink also passed this award onto me this past week. Thanks Tink! Your blog is great :) Stop by her blog for some great book and movie reviews. Tink always has interesting and detailed posts and she features some of my favorite films.

I won't be passing on the Butterfly Award, because i've seen on most of my blog buddies sites and I have passed it on before before.

And two other fun awards...The Lemonade Award and Kreativ Blogger Award, presented to me by Serena. The Lemonade Award is for blogs with great attitude and/or gratitude. Thank you Serena! I always enjoy stopping by great your blog. It's very 'Lemonadey' lol. Serena has great reviews and always has interesting blog posts. This is for all those blogs you cannot wait to read every day, that you look forward to seeing updates on and that have inspired you in your own blogging. There are no rules for this one, but feel free to pass it on to whomever you feel deserves it!

Thank you Joanne, I always look forward to stopping by your wonderful blog. It is definitely well worth watching :) If you guys haven't done so already, stop what you are doing and visit BookZombie's blog. You won't be dissapointed.

But I have made new blogging friends since then and I'd like to pass it on once more to all those mentioned in this post in case they don't have it. So if you don't have it, I'd like to give it now. You're blogs are definitely addictive :)

Feel free to pass this award on as well, to other blogs you find hard to resist:

Tink has awarded me the Kreativ Blogger Award. Thanks Tink!

The idea is to:

Decide on six values that are important to me, six things I don’t support, and nominate six bloggers.

6 values that are important to me: honesty, loyalty, strong sense of faith, good sense of humor,
patience and respect.

6 things I don’t support: prejudice, rudeness, lies, abuse of any kind to anyone, hate and conceit.

6 bloggers i'm nominating : Alice, Dar, Joanne, Paxton, Nymeth & Serena.

Kailana and Melody have awarded me the Christmas Spirit Award
. Thank you :)

Here are the rules for the Christmas Spirit Award:

"You must be a true Christmas lover to receive this award.

The person to whom you give the award must also be in love with Christmas.

Link back to the person who gave you the award.

List 5 things that you love about Christmas.

If you can't limit it to 5 things, then keep going till you run out of space!

Pass the award along to as many people as you like.

That can be 1 or 50. It's up to you!

But keep the Christmas cheer going!

Let your recipients know that you have
tagged them by leaving them a comment. Also, link back to the person who gave you the award."

5 Things I love about Christmas:

1. Seeing my kids making thier letters for santa. My youngest (8) still believes, and it's so cute to see how much thought she puts into her list! lol

2. Putting up the Christmas tree.

3. Buying the perfect gift for everyone on my list. I find it fun, before the holiday rush starts though.

4. All the holiday cooking. We bake cookies for Santa on Christmas Eve and I love to make a big meal on Christmas day.

5. Seeing my kids faces light up on Christmas morning.

Alice & Yvonne have passed on the Bookworm Award/Meme my way. Here's how it goes:

Open the closest book to you, not your favorite or most intellectual book, but the book closest to you at the moment, to page 56. Write out the fifth sentence, as well as two to five sentences following.

This is from 'The Virgin's Lover' by Philippa Gregory, which I have in my TBR mountain.

While I was walking around the royal palaces and spending time with my father commanding the court, she was fussing over the price of bacon and staying out of debt.

She is small scale, not a queen at all yet. She will stick at the raising of the Host because she can see it; that is real, it happens before her nose. But the great debates of the church she would rather avoid. Elizabeth has no vision; she has never had time to see before her own survival.

Serena tagged me for 7 Random Bookish Things. Here's my list of random things about books.

1. Gone With the Wind is one of my favorite books and films. I made my husband watch it and make him quote Rhett Butler's lines:

'No, I don't think I will kiss you, although you need kissing, badly. That's what's wrong with you. You should be kissed and often, and by someone who knows how.'

2. One of my favorite authors is Jane Austen. I've read and re-read Pride & Prejudice several times. Mr.Darcy is perfection.

3. I read every day. When I'm done with one book, I always have another one lined up. I tend to have a book to read at work, and a book to read at home.

4. If I borrow a book to read, and really love it, i'll go out and buy it so I can have my own copy.

5. I own several bookmarks, but rarely use them.

6. I read all the Harry Potter books twice.

7. I used to read Star Trek Voyager books! lol I loved the series and the books were pretty good.

--------------------------

I'd also like to post my pretty award from Joanne...a.k.a. Book Zombie:

To translate the gift from Portuguese to English, it means: "This blog invests and believes, the proximity" [meaning, that blogging makes us 'close' -being close through proxy]. They all are charmed with the blogs, where in the majority of its aims are to show the marvels and to do friendship; there are persons who are not interested when we give them a prize, and then they help to cut these bows; do we want that they are cut, or that they propagate? Then let’s try to give more attention to them!

Thanks BookZombie, your blog is pretty charming too :)

an award

I was nominated by wisteria. Thanks so much :)

Once an award is received, the rules are as follows:

1. Put the logo on your blog.

2. Add a link to the person who awarded you. (She is also on my blogroll...She's that good!)

3. Nominate at least seven other blogs.

4. Add links to those blogs on your blog.

5. Leave a message for your nominee on their blog.

My nominees (In NO particular order):

1. wisteria: She's got a great blog, does some awesome reviews and she volunteers with Greyhound Rescue and Rehabilitation, so you know she's got a heart of gold. View her sidebar to the bottom right to see her cute pups.

2. lady tink: Hers is one of the first book blogs I visited. And she is one of the first bloggers to stop by my book blog and comment on my lonely little posts, especially when I first started blogging. Check out her book blog for some great reviews, and stop by her movie blog while you are there, she does some awesome movie reviews as well.

3. j.kaye: Her blog awed me from my first visit and I was hooked. Not only does she post some great reviews, she also generously raffles off books often, and is a very sweet lady. There's never a dull post over there. When I started my blog, I got plenty of ideas from her blog on how to make mine better.

4. cheryl's book nook: If you need a good suggestion for your next read, go visit cheryl. She's always blogging about great books that I wouldn't have found otherwise. She's also does some great author interviews.

5. sarai: There's always something fun & interesting going on at sarai's blog. And she does some great book reviews! Visit her
and her 'thoughts of an aspiring writer'.

6. the trillionth page: If you need to read some fun and interesting posts, go visit c.j. She will make you smile while you are there too. And look at her blog header, how cool is that? Plus the graphics she often uses with her posts are lots of fun too.

7. my journey through reading: She does some great book reviews...and always takes time to leave me a kind comment. She's on hiatus for now, but I hope when she gets the time, she'll continue blogging :o)
