title: The Tudors
starting date: 2007
rated: 5 stars so far
plot: A dramatic series about the reign and marriages of King Henry VIII.
Thanks to Netflix, I get to rent movies and miniseries till my hearts content. The Tudors being one of them. I just finished watching Season 1. Jonathan Rhys Meyers plays King Henry VIII, and the miniseries is loosely based on his married life and on his affair with Anne Boleyn.
Henry is married to the first of his six wives, Queen Catherine of Aragon, his brothers widow. The same queen that Philippa Gregory's book, The Constant Princess is based on. Though he is a married man, he does not love his wife, and spends his time sleeping with her ladies in waiting.
When Henry meets Anne Boleyn, she catches his attention right away, which is not saying much at this point. But as time goes on, he becomes obsessed with her. And she convinces him to divorce his wife and marry her instead.
That's as far as I've gotten, and it's great so far. I usually like anything based on this time period, and even if this series is not always historically correct, it makes for a great show. There's lots of drama, romance, sex, betrayal and scandal going on here. I can't wait to watch the rest of the series.
