Sense and Sensibility by Jane Austen
I finished watching PBS Masterpiece Theatere version of 'Sense & Sensibility', as part of Becky's Mini Austen Challenge. I've been watching
PBS Masterpiece Theatere Complete Jane Austen, they are playing the film adaptations of Jane Austens novels. I'm sad that S & S was the last film to be shown, I liked watching these.
I haven't read S & S yet, but have it waiting in my TBR pile.

the plot: Elinor and Marianne Dashwood are the elder two of three sisters. Elinor has sense and Marianne has sensibility. Mrs. Dashwood, thier mother, is recently widowed and about to be forced to move out of her house by her stepson and his wife who have inherited the house.
Mrs. Dashwood and her daughters are offered a cottage in Devonshire and move there.
'So acutely did Mrs. Dashwood feel this ungracious behaviour, and so earnestly did she despise her daughter-in-law for it, that, on the arrival of the latter, she would have quitted the house for ever, had not the entreaty of her eldest girl induced her first to reflect on the propriety of going, and her own tender love for all her three children determined her afterwards to stay, and for their sakes avoid a breach with their brother.'
Two of the main men are Edward Ferrars and Colonel Brandon. There is also the villain, Mr. Willoughby<- for some reason I like this name alot..lol. The PBS version was good, it was entertaining.
Marianne falls in love with Willoughby.
'When he was present she had no eyes for any one else. Every thing he did, was right. Every thing he said, was clever. If their evenings at the park were concluded with cards, he cheated himself and all the rest of the party to get her a good hand. If dancing formed the amusement of the night, they were partners for half the time; and when obliged to separate for a couple of dances, were careful to stand together and scarcely spoke a word to any body else. Such conduct made them of course most exceedingly laughed at; but ridicule could not shame, and seemed hardly to provoke them.'
Col. Brandon is not happy about this, he knows something about W. that no one else knows....and they even fight a duel...with swords...Col. Brandon and Willoughby...*sigh*
"To your sister I wish all imaginable happiness; to Willoughby that he may endeavour to deserve her."-
Colonel Brandon
Elinor is in love with Edward Ferrars, but alas, he is engaged to someone else since childhood.
"At present, I know him so well, that I think him really handsome; or at least, almost so."-Elinor
This kind of reminds me of Pride & Prejudice a bit. Two sisters, they don't have much money. Rich Colonel Brandon knows something about W., and reveals this to Elinor in time. Of course classic Jane Austen, everything is straightened out and there is a happy ending.
