6 days until kickoff... A lot of questions are coming out of the AFC South, including Peyton Manning's health and the Texans ability to make the postseason...
4. Tennessee Titans (6-10): For the first time in franchise history, the Titans will not have Jeff Fisher roaming the sidelines as coach. Tennessee also released former Heisman Trophy winner Vince Young and replaced him with veteran Matt Hasselbeck. That was a great move, considering that Hasselbeck has great ties to rookie Jake Locker (who has played tremendous in the preseason). The best move the Titans made was re-signing RB Chris Jonson, because if he's not there, this team isn't going anywhere anytime soon. 2011 will be a transition year for the Titans, who hired Mike Munchak as head coach to replace Fisher. The defense is a big question, particularly the pass rush, who lost Jason Babin to the Eagles. I don't think that Tennessee will have a winning record this season because there are to many questions with Hasselbeck, who could go down at anytime and that could put the pressure on the rookie Locker to preform.
3. Jacksonville Jaguars (8-8): When Maurice Jones-Drew went down at the end of last season, the Jaguars fell apart and were unable to win the division. That injury showed the lack of depth Jacksonville had and it hasn't changed much in 2011. The Jaguars surprised everyone when they traded up in the first round to get Blaine Gabbert to be their QB of the future. That could mean that David Garrard's time is almost up in Jacksonville. Garrard has had some injury problems, but Gabbert hasn't played well enough in the preseason to replace Garrard anytime soon. Most of the Jaguars offense will be heavy doses of Drew throughout the entire season. As for the defense, Aaron Kapman has to get going for their defense to improve from last season. Besides Rashean Mathis, the Jaguars don't have any other shutdown DB's. That is costly considering they have to play Peyton Manning twice a year.
2. Indianapolis Colts (9-7): You can make the argument that Peyton Manning is the most important player to his team then any other athlete in all of sports. I think without Manning the Colts are a three, maybe a four win team. Manning had two neck surgeries in the offseason and was unable to rehab due to the lockout. He missed the whole preseason but was recently removed from the physically unable to preform list. However, Manning's status for week 1 is still in question. Even if Manning could only miss one or two games, there is a really good chance that his injury may worsen if the Colts force him onto the field. A young offensive line could worsen Manning's chance to get injured to. If Manning can not go in the opener, then newly signed free agent Kerry Collins will take his place. Collins went 5-10 with 45 yards and a fumble in his Colts debut, leaving Colts fans worried about the first time in years. Even though the Colts do have one of the best defensive lines in football with Dwight Freeney and Robert Mathis, Manning is the Colts. This would be the first time since 2001 that Indy did not win at least 10 games.
1. Houston Texans (10-6): The Texans are one of the most explosive offenses in the NFL, but over their franchise history they have not been able to get over the hump. I think 2011 is their year and it all starts when they play the Colts in week 1. At the center of that explosive offense is RB Arian Foster, who had a NFL leading 16 touchdowns last season. Like Peyton Manning, Foster might not play in the opener due to a hamstring issue. Even if Foster doesn't play, Matt Schaub and Andre Johnson will light up the scoreboard because they have become one of the most explosive duos in the NFL. If there is one thing standing in the Texans way of getting to the playoffs, its their defense. Wade Phillips was hired as defensive coordinator to fix a defense that finished dead last in 2010. Many questions remain for Mario Williams and if he can make the transition into a 3-4 defense, but he is one of the best athletes in the game and he will be just fine. The Texans also addressed their problems in the secondary by signing CB Johnathon Joseph. Houston will be a very dangerous team in 2011 and for the first time in their history they will make the playoffs.
