''It is better to fail in originality than to succeed in imitation.'' - Herman Melville
Posted by st at 3:00 PMI love fashion, everyone knows that. I put a lot of effort and thought into what I wear, if you read my blog, you know what my inspiration/style is. I don't fit into a certain category and I mean that. Certain people have similar interests to me, of course. But what do you do when a person blatantly copies you? Yes, imitation is a form of flattery.. but when it goes too far, it's just creepy. To me, anyways. If you adapt ideas from peoples' styles and incorporate them into your own style, ok.. but when somebody starts copying your hairstyles, your clothes, your blog posts, people you look up to and your future plans, it becomes scary.
I can't help but come across up my own arse saying any of this, because I find it difficult to express this correctly. I keep getting linked to a certain girl's page and photos, and it's just like me. When someone obviously follows your current hairstyles... my poofy-side style with the undercut and now my 50s quiff and bandana.. as soon as I change them? I'm aware tons of people like similar styles, but when somebody does it one after the other, like you, it's just weird. When somebody edits their photos to look like yours, it's weird. When somebody looks at your blog posts, and then does practically the exact same ones on their blogs, it's weird. When someone says their idols are the same as yours, it's weird. When someone wants to move to London for fashion college, the same as you, it's weird. If someone did one or two or these things, it wouldn't bother me. I wouldn't bat an eyelid. But when all these things occur at the same time.. it creeps me out. I make an effort with what I wear and when I have somebody copy it to a T, it just drains me.
People go through phases, I know. When you're a young teen, you don't know who you are. I realise all of this. But people have to realise how weird it is, getting linked to people's photos and being asked 'is this you?'. I'm not on my own here saying this. About 15 people, from all different groups, have said this to me.. A ton of people find it strange.
Some of you may think, 'oh Leanne just thinks she's so great and that everyone wants to be her.' That's not the case at all. Be empathetic. Try having someone duplicate your every move when it comes to creativity. It's not fucking normal and to put it simply, it angers me.

So if you're reading this, which I know you will be, please stop. I've mailed you a ton of times but no, you block me. I think you need to develop your own interests and styles.. it's not a nice feeling seeing your double walking around. Dress your own way, the way you like. Write blogs about things you like. Be inspired by musicians and actresses you like. Go to a college you genuinely want to go to. Be yourself.
