Lyme Disease

Lyme disease is an infection that bacterium Borrelia burgdorferi causes to.This bacterium is transmitted to human's bloodstream via a tick bite.Lyme disease leads to inflammatory diseases affecting skin,bones and nervous system.

The name of Lyme comes from town of the Lyme of the Connecticut in where first Lyme case has been seen in 1970.In 1982 Willy Bugdorfer has found that main cause of the lyme was bacterium Borrelia.

Symptoms
Lyme disease affect different areas of the body as it progresses.Most known symptoms are:

  • fatigue,
  • muscle pain,
  • joint pain,
  • headache,
  • fever and/or chills, and
  • neck stiffness.
  • joint pain, and
  • inflammation (swelling) of the joints.
  • numbness and pain in your limbs,
  • temporary paralysis of your facial muscles - usually only one half of the face is affected (this symptom is also known as Bell’s palsy),
  • impaired memory,
  • difficulty concentrating, and
  • changes in personality.
  • severe headache,
  • stiff neck, and
  • increased sensitivity to light (photophobia).
  • chronic (long-lasting) joint pain and swelling,
  • impaired memory,
  • difficulties concentrating, and
  • depression.
How to prevent ?
You can decrease your risk of getting Lyme disease with some simple precautions:
Wear long pants and sleeves.
Use insect repellents.
Do your best to tick-proof your yard.
Check yourself, your children and your pets for ticks.

Remove a tick with tweezers.
Gently grasp the tick near its head or mouth. Don't squeeze or crush the tick, but pull carefully and steadily. Once you've removed the entire tick, dispose of it and apply antiseptic to the bite area.
