Sally O. Lee was kind enough to send me a signed copy of her book The Rabbit and the Snowman. I read this one to my daughter (8) and she really enjoyed the story and the cute illustrations.
It is about a group of children who build a snowman and leave him in the field. The snowman wonders what he did wrong to make the children leave him behind. A rabbit comes along and he and the snowman become friends.
'They talked about how the snow made a crunchy cound when it was a few days old. And how the sun trickled thriugh the trees to make streams of light.'
Then when the seasons change, the snowman melts and the rabbit wonders what he did wrong to make the snowman go away. The rabbit misses the snowman all year long, and when winter arrives again, the rabbit finds the snowman.
'And there in the field was the snowman waiting for the rabbit to come and talk with him about the sun and the snow, the birds and the stars.'
This is a sweet story about how friendship can last. Young children will also enjoy the whimsical illustrations.
