I received this book as an ARC to read & review and am glad I got the opportunity to read it.
In 'Operation Blue Light: My Secret Life among Psychic Spies'
Philip Chabot tells the story of his psychic abilities, ending with how these abilitites allowed him to make a phone call to the Peoples Republic of China from the United States.

'I'm not sure what triggered the ability. Was it something I was born with? Did it have something to do with the concussion I suffered when I feel and hit my head when I was eleven?'

I found this to be an interesting book. I like the way Philip tells his story, he keeps the reader wanting to know more. He takes us from the Fall of 1960-1966, ending with is famous phone call to China.

Philip felt isolated at times because of his special ability. As a teenager, a few times he was able to get a 'sense' of what was going on with his friends, and when he told them what he 'saw', they looked at him as if he were a freak.

While he is attending college, he has a mini-breakdown brought on by stress, and Philip winds up going to a mental hospital for a few months. When he goes back home, he begins to have regular therapy sessions.
A while after leaving the hospital, Philip no longer needed to take medication and
he began to get his psychic abilities back. He realized that the one medication he was on, was blocking his ability. Once off it, he began to get communication from other psychics, only he can hear them. Philip winds up leaving his home and trying to find these people he has been hearing inside his head. He winds up driving to a motel in Lebanon, Missouri and finally making the call.

'I felt tense and anxious. What had started as a pleasant daydream about a moment I had enjoyed in my past had tunred into some kind of mental nightmare. How could
I be seeing and hearing things happening halfway across the globe? I would have completely doubted this if I hadn't seen and experienced things no one else could believe from my past. '

Personally, I don't know about being able to contact others telepathically or having mental conversations with other people. It's something I can not wrap my mind around....pardon the pun.
But I do believe that certain people have that 6th sense, that psychic ability that allows them to sense things that others do not.

All in all, this was an interesting read. It's not what I would usually choose to read, and that's what grabbed my interest in the first place.
The reason for my 3 1/2 star rating instead of 4, is only because I would have preferred the author to have cut out the unnecessary details in certain parts. It was almost like 'too much information' about certain things. Other than that this
was a good book.

about the author:

This is a true story. The names have been changed to protect the privacy of my friends and relatives.

I spent my life trying NOT to be defined by the events described in this story. I have worked as a photographer, an artist and a computer programmer. I married a good and caring woman who encouraged me to avoid psychic experiences if possible just as my psychiatrist had suggested – like an alcoholic must avoid drink. But now that both of them have died and I am looking back over my life I realize that what you do not talk about defines you every bit as much as what you do. A dry drunk is still a drunk.

It is not that I am ashamed of the psychic gift I had on occasions during those years. Psychic abilities connect you to every place, everything, every time and everyone but the irony is that nothing else separates you so completely from the people in your life. When I demonstrated my ability I found disbelief, suspicion and fear. So I decided to avoid psychic experiences and keep it all a secret accept from a chosen few.
