Why do religious fanatics hate science so much then?

While there are gaps and unsolved questions within science the general consensus is that science is something that can be put to a test, proven with scientific experiments, facts, data, fossils millions of years old, and common sense.

Religious faith, not so much, faith is more like a feeling, a built in ideology that one embraces blindly and without contemplating the absurdities of the very things these sets of beliefs are. I really feel sorry for people of faith because in my book they have surrendered their ability to think logically and abandoned reason to go and waddle in that mud puddle of ignorance and superstition they call religious faith.

I am singularly troubled when I see a politician running for high office who claims to be “born again” and who believes in “Creationism”, because if they have those sets of ideas then not only are they removed from the realities of science but they are invoking a self-righteous ignorance protected by their faith. It is in my book a mental and intellectual flaw and anyone holding those faith-based beliefs should not occupy any elected office…not even dog catcher.

I am a firm believer that man does not have the capacity to understand everything nor does he have an appropriate answer to the questions that have plagued mankind since the beginning…”where do we come from and who made all this?” But then again, just because we can’t answer that with certainty that does not mean that we have to invent, to fabricate if you will a whole slew of absurdities and explanations, coupled with superstition and outlandish fairy tales. It is all so very fantastic that I can’t reconcile my intellect with faith.

It is not surprising then that the religious right is hell bent on catching our young while they are still vulnerable and gullible…their innocence is fertile ground for indoctrination and that then becomes the priority for these bible pushing fanatics…to deny teaching them science and evolution and replace it instead with creationism.

Nor does it appear in the Constitution, nowhere

This concept that the United States is a Christian nation rattles my cage…we are not…we are a secular nation whose population happens to be for the most part Christians…at least that is what they call themselves. Yet, most of these people are so far removed from the teachings of that wise and inspiring figure that it brings anger to my soul when I think of the ways in which they twist, misinterpret, embellish and even make up the Scriptures (Mormons and Jehovah’s Witnesses for example)

Conversely, I have yet to find any pronouncements by Jesus that he rejected or condemned homosexuality…NONE! I am not sure that he would endorse it either nor that he would reject it altogether. If a lack of endorsement means that the love between two people that choose to be together is condemned that is carrying it to speculation.

Jesus, as far as I know, was in favor of love. The central theme of his messages was love…love yourself, love one another, love thy enemy…Where do all these fucking Evangelicals and Fundamentalists of other religions get the notion that you should hate somebody simply because he doesn’t insert a penis into a vagina?

But such a radical repudiation from Jesus would be unlikely…I am quite sure that Jesus wouldn’t say “kill the gays” or some variant, so long as we’re gone somehow, they don’t seem to care. And Jesus was not a violent fellow, only once getting physical, and throwing the money changers out of the temple. Well, banking had a bad rep for 2000 years or so after that, until the industrial revolution put an end to that. Nothing like a little capitalism to cure your ills, I assure you.

What does seem clear, however, is that we have this thing called the Declaration of Independence, and the Constitution too, which does not quite use the words of Jesus at all, but is quite emphatic in saying that all men are endowed by their creator with the pursuit of happiness and government should stay out of people’s lives. Alas, I’m pursued like a hunted fox by people whom are happy to earn a living in trying to change me to their ways. They used to use the police, even, to come bust into our lives. They want me to adhere to their religion – and where in our two documents of government does it say that one person might force a religion upon another? Where in our American traditions does it say that I must get married to some girl or believe your version of Jesus? And where does it say – “if something can’t be figured out, what would Jesus do?” and then let the biggest religion win or something. I don’t seem to be able to find it.

My take on this is that religions should stop trying to get our government to do their bidding, their promotion, and their dominance. It is quite clear also that it is not a question of might or numbers…even if a majority of Americans adhere to a certain flavor of religion…this religion can’t use government to impose, force or otherwise prevail by the use of government; and in my book what these people intend to do and have done is to use government to be the moral police, the enforcer of their religious laws and also to put a stamp of approval on their ability or desire to discriminate…that last one to me is the most odious, least acceptable use of government.

WAS JESUS A HOMOSEXUAL?

Australian educator, Michael Kelly wrote: "The question is, apparently, provocative....even asking the question is sacrilege, blasphemy, a vilification of Christianity, and a mockery of people's deepest beliefs." 1 Judging by the anger shown by many Christians toward the Da Vinci Code book and movie, some find it difficult to wrap their minds around the concept of Jesus having been sexually active. The thoughts that he might have been gay or bisexual are even more difficult to handle.

There is nothing in the Christian Scriptures (New Testament) which specifically identifies Jesus' sexual orientation. The Bible does not say clearly whether Jesus had sexual feelings at all. If he did have sexual attraction to others, the Bible does not say whether he was a:

Heterosexual, having feeling of sexual attraction only to women, or

Homosexual, being attracted only to men

Bisexual orientation, being attracted to both men and women.

I have this nagging question for the longest time: If Jesus was an ordained Rabbi as it is reported, according to Jewish law he should have married by age 28 and did not. I also found it suspect that he only associated with men, seldom with women and none of the Scriptures mention any type of relationships he had with either.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------

THE SANCTITY OF MARRIAGE?

I don’t think that heterosexuals have to worry about homosexuals destroying the sanctity of marriage…the straights are doing a pretty good job of destroying it themselves.

Edwards, Craig, Sanford, Massa, Ensin, Clinton and Foley are just some of the politicians destroying the sanctity of marriage.

Then there are others from different walks of life like religious leaders Rekers and Haggard. Give me a fucking break!

Yes, hope…that wonderful feeling that you have even up to the very last breaths you take.

I hope and I hope…that seems to be the theme running through in all of the sixty five years I have spent on this planet. Even in the darkest hours, even in the face of insurmountable adversity I have had hope close at my side.

That is why I understand people of faith; because what they have is much like what I have…it is hope, it is that they have mistakenly placed their hope in a pre-packaged, fabricated, ill-conceived and manipulative formula. This is of course done with their consent and even with their total cooperation and support…these people of faith have placed all their hopes on religious dogma, on undeserving merchants of bullshit so that they can free themselves from having hope.

I hope that this life is not it…that there is something beyond the realm of our biological life-spans…I hope there is some way the essence of me will survive that demise, that unknown and feared end. But to this purpose I am not going to accept somebody else’s fabricated explanations, neither their fairy tales nor their outlandish concepts of creation and that abstract and overwhelming infinite universe…anything besides hope in my book is pure speculation.

I hope that other people would do unto me as I would unto them. I hope that they learn, I hope that they gain wisdom to be able to make intelligent decisions; I also hope that they abandon their faith and adopt a more realistic and healthy philosophy on life, on their relationship with other human beings and most of all I hope that they become humanists with great capacity to love and be compassionate.

I totally reject religious scriptures because I don’t attribute divine inspiration or sacred, direct communication or intervention from a Creator. I think that these writings were done by men with some expectations that they would be able to govern through them and their ability to mislead an otherwise ignorant population…the scriptures are meant as a tool of governance.

I get very disturbed at the way these so-called HOLLY SCRIPTURES are used. I see the way in which some passages are adhered to and others ignored or totally disregarded. Pick and choose, embrace one that more closely serves your resolve or justifies your prejudices. It is sad that most people use these scriptures as a means to discriminate and to persecute others different than themselves.

I am particularly amused by some of the absurdities, by some of the contradictions and the inconsistencies of these scriptures. One peculiar passage is the one of keeping the Sabbath…some religions have gone to great lengths to differentiate themselves from other religions solely on the basis of how they so jealously and literally keep this so-called COMMANDMENT.

The business of resting that seventh day of labor is so absurd that it brings tears to my eyes…not from sadness but from laughter. At some point in history the prescribed punishment for not keeping the Sabbath was death. Now, I have a neighbor who is a fireman; he is handsome beyond belief and nice way past human expectations. He is married…yes, hopelessly straight and has a beautiful daughter. He often works on Saturdays and Sundays. Should I stone him to death?

The misguided belief against blood transfusions

These fabricated and weird cults can only be described as sects for the extreme absurdities and their illogical ideology. Oftentimes they are very harmful to society and lethal to its followers as was the case with those who followed Jim Jones and their demise from mass suicide in Guyana.

But make no mistake about it, these other fringe religions are not all that different…than those fundamentalist Muslims and Christians only they have not yet reached a point where their pastors or leaders have asked them to fly a plane into a building, strap a bomb on themselves and blow themselves up or take arsenic laden Kool-Aid - just give them time and they will. Yet, some are doing some things ten times more hideous and repulsive as is the case with the Jehovah’s Witness and their stupid policy of not allowing blood transfusions.

Not only is it illogical because as we all know there are different types of blood groups and should you get one that is not compatible with your own it could have lethal consequences…but science has evolved and progress made and that is no longer a problem nor an argument for receiving or giving blood. But these fanatics cling to some obscure passage of the Scriptures and will carry it to the maximum of consequences: the death of one of their own offspring or a relative.

BLOOD TRANSFUSIONS, JEHOVAH'S WITNESSES, AND THE LAW

"The day's news tells of a mother who sacrificed six ounces of her blood in a transfusion for her baby girl. Strange that the busy press should even consider this news. A mother who wouldn't consent to a blood transfusion for her child would be much greater news, and the world a sorry place indeed on the day that such news is found!" -- Columnist Allene Sumner, in 1926.

“Since the WatchTower Society first stopped Jehovah's Witnesses from accepting blood transfusions in 1945, there has been a stream of state and federal court cases which have slowly but surely chipped away at the moral concept that to allow an adult or child to needlessly die inside a hospital setting is something unconscionable to our modern society. But, such has nearly been completely accomplished, thanks to the tireless efforts of the WatchTower Society's Legal Department.

The law in the United States regarding Jehovah's Witnesses and their refusal to accept blood transfusions is somewhat settled, although subject to exceptions. Most competent adults have the constitutional right to refuse to accept a blood transfusion, even if such refusal means they will die. Every year in the United States, an unknown number of adult Jehovah's Witnesses exercise their constitutional right to choose death over a life-saving blood transfusion. For every account of such death that is reported by the news media, there are an unknown number that go unreported due to confidentiality rules that restrain medical and hospital staff from releasing the fact that a death was due to the deceased's refusal to accept a blood transfusion.

Jehovah's Witness Parents will attempt to impose the same "death decision" on their minor children, but practically every hospital will attempt to obtain a court order which will permit them to administer medically necessary blood transfusions over the parent's objections -- assuming that the Jehovah's Witness Child is still alive by the time all the legalities are completed. Courts in the United States will nearly always appoint a temporary legal guardian under such circumstances to oversee and guarantee necessary medical care.

Scenarios involving pregnant Jehovah's Witnesses Mothers and their "fetuses", Jehovah's Witnesses Minors nearing the age of majority, and adult Jehovah's Witnesses who have parental obligations, are less settled, but are heading in the anticipated direction.

One of the benefits of studying the decades-long stream of court cases which have gradually given Jehovah's Witnesses the legal rights they now have regarding blood transfusions is learning about and understanding how during this decades-long process, the Jehovah's Witnesses have shared ideals and legal precedents with other groups which had common legal causes and interests.

For instance, the continued fight for legalization of abortion shares some of the same arguments as does the continuing blood transfusions issue as it relates to "unborn children", or as Jehovah's Witnesses prefer to label them when arguing such court cases -- "fetuses". Legal precedents have been shared by both groups. Opening the way to reject blood transfusions opens the way for other life-saving medical procedures to be refused. Right-to-die and assisted suicide advocates share some common arguments with the Jehovah's Witnesses. One can't help but wonder if and how often attorneys from some of these groups assisted the others with their own causes in order to help their own cause.

Another "light bulb" that finally came on during this legal study answered my decades-long curiosity as to why there were enclaves of Jehovah's Witnesses scattered around the United States who were adamant supporters of the midwife industry. Now, I know. One can only wonder how many hundreds, or possibly even thousands, of Jehovah's Witness newborns who needed a blood transfusion to survive died because their birth occurred outside a hospital setting. One can only wonder how many Jehovah's Witness families with known genetic problems, such as Rh factor incompatibility, repeatedly had baby, after baby, after baby, as those parents simply played a numbers game waiting for one to eventually survive. The evidence is inside.”

But I have my own reasons and here they are:

I think that teaching Creationism and suppressing Evolution is misguided and harmful. I think it is imperative that we settle this issue once and for all. We thought we had put it to bed after the “Monkey Trials” (The Scopes Trial)—formally known as The State of Tennessee v. Scopes and informally known as the Scopes Monkey Trial—was a landmark American legal case in 1925 in which high school biology teacher, John Scopes, was accused of violating Tennessee's Butler Act which made it unlawful to teach evolution.

It is imperative that we bring that fucking Texas school board to trial and now that we have a dearth more evidence supporting EVOLUTION they are going to be left with egg on their fucking Fundamentalist faces.

Here are some of my own reasons…first and the one that swayed me to believe in Evolution were the similarities between fetuses of all species:

http://www.google.com/imgres?imgurl=https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh5qZyj6GOHcAn1Lr60INV7DoC2T-TDybtytorjrKcgyE8rrlen8e5kEi36FEsOEOYhIo2MGCU3DkjUOLgyoo6jMJf4qnwjVgoX_-m5OJ9xT91k_EAdTXN-3qr1p1iyMVgmkug0eW2hAG3X/s1600/embryos2.jpg&imgrefurl=http://gillslits.blogspot.com/&usg=__H9pOMZAWtVAXq777cLVogF5Rhgk=&h=263&w=365&sz=21&hl=en&start=97&sig2=sXM0ARFsnvvqnyKdf2vp6w&zoom=1&tbnid=zwZz_yggnJwJRM:&tbnh=122&tbnw=169&ei=BRvrTf6wCNDOgAfu4JDZCQ&prev=/search%3Fq%3Dmammal%2Bembryos%26hl%3Den%26sa%3DX%26biw%3D1024%26bih%3D603%26tbm%3Disch&itbs=1&iact=rc&dur=526&page=7&ndsp=15&ved=1t:429,r:9,s:97&tx=98&ty=59&biw=1024&bih=603

Second the ability to alter or manipulate genetics:

http://www.google.com/imgres?imgurl=http://www.success4dummies.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/07/dolly.jpg&imgrefurl=http://www.success4dummies.com/&usg=__1NuNOVFLtzNwkVzVEDFJb0-Lnf0=&h=354&w=541&sz=45&hl=en&start=97&sig2=aKXde_3TypCEx5VFd0I4NQ&zoom=1&tbnid=m-9koYRMyz-xPM:&tbnh=105&tbnw=161&ei=BRvrTf6wCNDOgAfu4JDZCQ&prev=/search%3Fq%3Dmammal%2Bembryos%26hl%3Den%26sa%3DX%26biw%3D1024%26bih%3D603%26tbm%3Disch&itbs=1&iact=rc&dur=734&page=7&ndsp=15&ved=1t:429,r:12,s:97&tx=77&ty=39&biw=1024&bih=603

THE NOTORIOUS FRUIT FLY

“In the early decades of the 20th century, with Darwin dead and Mendel on their minds, scientists were creating an entirely new way of looking at evolution. Instead of thinking about populations of plants and animals as collections of individuals, biologists like Dobzhansky began thinking exclusively in terms of genes and gene pools. As good as Darwin's evolutionary argument was, it had always lacked direct experimental evidence. By combining the fledgling science of genetics with Darwinian evolution, Dobzhansky gave Darwin's ideas the empirical kick up the backside they had been crying out for.

But Dobzhansky's success was no solo affair. He would have got nowhere without his insect comrade, the fruit fly, Drosophila pseudoobscura. His choice of experimental organism may have seemed unusual. After all, Dobzhansky's tiny fruit flies were hardly a match for Darwin's finches, or so it seemed. But Dobzhansky chose wisely. By the 1930s, fruit flies had already proved themselves as pioneers in genetics research. They were cheap, prolific and easy to breed. They also had the biggest chromosomes that anyone had ever seen.”

There are other reasons and evidence to support evolution but I find the most curious ones to be that of the human spinal cord having vestiges of a tail and then there is the innate “make your hair stand on end” involuntary human reaction which is nothing more than the remnants of “puffing up” in lower animals to appear more menacing.

Give the illiterate what they want: a comic book style bible with pictures

As if the Scriptures were not fabricated enough and conjure up images of a wrathful God and all the outlandish fairy tales that are contained therein…they now have to add more imagery, more glitz, more superstition reinforcement by illustrating the Bible…or are they doing it to be able to sell it to these ignorant and illiterate people who really can’t read anything more advanced than a comic book?

The offer came in an e-mail and it says:

“The Almighty Bible: Genesis is a vividly illustrated, biblically faithful depiction of the amazing first book of the Bible. It includes The Garden of Eden, the Tower of Babel, Noah’s Ark, and other classic stories. Written and designed to appeal to all ages, this book is something young children can pick up and enjoy immediately. The inspirational words of the Bible are something the whole family can enjoy.”

Notice the use of the words Almighty (caps?) also vividly, faithful and inspirational…the only thing that inspired me to do when I saw this was to vomit.

Lastly; “IT IS GOOD FOR CHILDREN” – By all means, get them while they are young and impressionable, instill in them fear and superstition, brainwash them and they will be good followers and never will they be able to question or think for themselves.

I am going to have to use profanity to drive home the point: You Evangelicals don’t know what the fuck you are talking about.

Your obsession with “Revelations” is not only absurd but also very destructive. What you are doing to your followers is to scare the shit out of them so that they become your followers, your slaves. But make no mistake about it…the whole crap about “REVELATIONS” is a fictional doomsday scenario that imagines a very mean, wrathful God destroying what he supposedly created.

I don’t know about you but I can’t imagine such a God nor can I imagine buying what these people are selling. Unequivocally these Evangelical-Fundamentalists actually want the end of times to come; Armageddon, the whole ball of wax. They actually rejoice when they hear of a catastrophe or some crisis…because in their world that is an indication of the proximity to Armageddon.

Please don’t tell me that it is not the case because I have met Evangelicals, tons of them and each and everyone had that doomsday crap in common. I even watched firsthand the reaction of a neighbor of mine who happened to be visiting my mother the moment the plane hit the second tower on 9/11. I can tell you that her demeanor was jubilant; her smile was eerie and there was a sense of gloating and she immediately commented: “that is an indication that the end of times has begun”

I don’t know about you but I think that a religion like that is pretty fucked up. I mean, to actually rejoice when thousands of people are killed…with the culmination of the entire human race being wiped out. Do these people realize that their validation carries such a drastic and evil purpose? They are misguided into believing that they alone will survive it…they will be looked upon by that wrathful God with kindness and will rescue them just because they have these weird and far out ideas?

It is a very sorry day when people live their whole lives just looking forward to their demise and the obliteration of the human race. That in my book is totally, perversely FUCKED UP. And for those who are the spokespersons and are benefiting from these scare tactics…SHAME ON YOU…you might scare people into buying some gold…but that gold will be totally worthless when there is nobody to buy it.

You hear it every day, frequently and they are very alarming ads. “Buy gold now, protect your wealth, it is an investment that will keep your future safe” and so on; they tell you to be scared. It is almost always followed by some motivation of urgency, the world is coming to an end and you will be holding gold, it will save you from ruin and despair…etc. It will even help you get through THE RAPTURE.

I couldn’t agree with this at all because gold is as high as you could possibly buy it now. To buy something when it is high is insane. You are constantly told to buy low and sell high, so why should gold be any different?

But that is not the only intricacy of this transaction. What really happens is that you are overwhelmed by all kinds of service charges and costs that are not apparent when you do decide to turn some of your cash into gold. Good luck if you try to convert some of your investments into gold; you are in for the ride of your life. It has been pointed out by many including Rep. Anthony Weiner of NY (D) that in order to make the purchase of gold worthwhile would be if the price went up 200% and that is a practical impossibility.

If you don’t believe me how inflated the price of buying gold is then try to sell some on your own. What you can do is gather all your old rings, chains, damaged jewelry and any gold you have sitting around and send it to one of these companies that buy this stuff. Then divide the money you got by the weight and compare it to the price you pay when you buy as compared to when you sell.

Let Armageddon begin! Because according to the Jehovah’s Witness they are the only ones who will survive.

“Salvation Only For Jehovah's Witnesses

The Watchtower Society teaches that since Jehovah's Witnesses alone have God's backing and are the only ones that worship the true God, shortly they alone will survive Armageddon.

"Only Jehovah's Witnesses, those of the anointed remnant and the "great crowd," as a united organization under the protection of the Supreme Organizer, have any Scriptural hope of surviving the impending end of this doomed system dominated by Satan the Devil." Watchtower 1989 Sep. 1 p.19

"Similarly, Jehovah is using only one organization today to accomplish his will. To receive everlasting life in the earthly Paradise we must identify that organization and serve God as part of it." Watchtower 1983 Feb. 15 p.12

"Is it presumptuous of Jehovah's Witnesses to point out that they alone have God's backing? Actually, no more so than when the Israelites in Egypt claimed to have God's backing in spite of the Egyptians' belief, or when the first-century Christians claimed to have God's backing to the exclusion of Jewish religionists."
Watchtower 2001 June 1 p.16

"During the final period of the
ancient world that perished in the Flood, Noah was a faithful preacher of righteousness. (2 Peter 2:5) In these last days of the present system of things, Jehovahs people are making known Gods righteous standards and are declaring good news about the possibility of surviving into the new world. (2 Peter 3:9-13) Just as Noah and his God-fearing family were preserved in the ark, survival of individuals today depends on their faith and their loyal association with the earthly part of Jehovahs universal organization." Watchtower 2006 May 15 p.22 "Are You Prepared for Survival?" Paragraph 8

The Watchtower goes as far as to state that there are billions in line for destruction.

"There are billions of people who do not know Jehovah. Many of them in ignorance practice things that God's Word shows to be wicked. If they persist in this course, they will be among those who perish during the great tribulation." Watchtower 1993 October 1 p.19 “
