This week’s theme is: fun facts about authors.
1. Choose a writer you like.
2. Using resources such as Wikipedia, the author’s website, whatever you can find, make a list of interesting facts about the author.
3. Post your fun facts list in your blog, maybe with a photo of the writer, a collage of his or her books, whatever you want.
4. Come sign the Mr Linky below with the url to your fun facts post.
5. As you run into (or deliberately seek out) other Weekly Geeks’ lists, add links to your post for authors you like or authors you think your readers are interested in.
This is going to be fun, partly because it's always fun learning about my favorite authors, and also because I'm a bit nosey...lol.
This was a tough one as well, since I have so many favorite authors. But I picked just one. Dean Koontz
full name: Dean Ray Koontz
birthdate: July 9, 1945
Best known for his novels that could broadly be described as suspense thrillers, Koontz also frequently incorporates elements of horror, science fiction, mystery, and satire. Several of his books have appeared on the New York Times Bestseller List, with ten hardcovers and fourteen paperbacks reaching the number one slot. Early in his career, Koontz wrote under an array of pen names, but since the 1980s has written mostly under his own name.

Random Facts:
-He grew up in poverty with an alcoholic father.
-He graduated from Shippensburg State College.
-He married his highschool sweetheart, Gerda.
-His first novel called Starquest was published in 1968.
-His breakthrough novel was Whispers, published in 1980.
-He had hair transpant surgery in the late 1990s.
-He lives in California where most of his novels are set.
-In 2008 he was listed as the sixth highest-paid author, in a tie with John Grisham.
-His beloved golden retriever Trixie Koontz, recently passed away. She has 3 books accredited to her including 'Christmas Is Good'.
-He and his wife actively donate to Canine Companions for Independence, a national organization that breeds and trains service dogs for adults and children with disabilities.
-He is awesome. (that's my own random fact thrown in) I wrote to him a few years back, and he sent me an autographed copy of The Taking along with a personalized note.
One of the reasons I like Koontz writing is because his stories are not only suspenseful, he has a great sense of humor and this shows through in his writing. Just when you least expect it, something funny will happen in his stories and kind of break the tension.
Among my favorite Koontz novels are The Taking, the Odd Thomas series, Life Expectancy and By The Light of the Moon.
He has a new book coming out Nov25: Your Heart Belongs to Me
