A fanatical and unhealthy preoccupation with repressing anything even remotely sexual
This is but one of many meaningless and stupid incidents that preoccupy our society and make it so difficult to hold a grown up conversation about sexual matters. Why it is just the photo of a man’s crotch, a bulge of sizeable proportions, not anything to write home about and yet it has caused such a fucking stir for crying out loud.
We have seen it time and time again how the mere appearance of a photograph of a bare chest politician will trigger his resignation. The political pundits will pick up these little morsels of what is considered scandalous and run with it getting a week’s worth of mileage out of them.
As a country, we are so prudish, so repressed sexually that we are willing to impeach a sitting President when we found out he had a blow job. Conversely, the Republicans have a little more stomach for tolerance of their own when it comes to indiscretions and adultery…It is entirely possible for a politician to finish his term in office after it is found that the son of a bitch is an adulterer.
I think that our national preoccupation with repressing sex, denying its existence, not admitting that it is healthy and pleasurable has come to a ridiculous extreme; it is of course fueled by the passions of the prudish Evangelicals who seem to have more power than they deserve and also by a legacy of puritanical heritage.
Either we stop behaving like childish Junior high school twerps and just allow individuals their privacy and put aside all this sexual repression bullshit or let’s go ahead and return to Victorian times…with all the hypocrisy that accompanied that period of time…no, wait, maybe we would be better of adopting Sharia laws and cover our women from head to toe with only a little slit on their headgear to look through.
WE HAVE TO STOP PASSING JUDGEMENT ON OTHERS AND WORRY MORE ABOUT OUR OWN BEHAVIOR.
