Most of us live by the rule that we follow the advice of experts, of the elders and of our clergy. I have news for you…it doesn’t always work.
In Spanish we have a saying: “el que no oye consejos, no llega a Viejo” (he who doesn’t listen to advice will not reach old age) I will give you an example that disproves that notion.
Back in the early seventies, I had a chance to purchase a piece of land; it was almost 3 acres west of the 826 and ten blocks from Palmetto General Hospital in Hialeah Gardens. The asking price was $27,000 but it had some disadvantages: no water or sewer and the electricity wasn’t available yet. My father, who was a know-it-all told me that I was crazy, buying a piece of land without electricity or water. Fast forward ten years and that very piece of land sold for 1.5 million. I slam my head against the wall when I think that I should have followed my instincts instead of listening to him.
My ex-wife was one who didn’t like to live in old houses. My idea of buying some old property and restore, renovate it and bring it to where it was desirable in order to flip it was not well received by her. Considering I was married for 24 years, if I had flipped one house per year at an average of $50,000 profit per house I would be sitting pretty these days. As it was, once I was divorced I flipped five houses in a period of four years and was able to build up a nest egg for my old age. Never mind, I didn’t get to keep any of it because when the stock market crashed in 2008 my pension went from $1,070 per month to $5.62. And thus I had to dip into my savings; now it is all gone…401K, savings accounts…all of it.
Just like me, there are millions of seniors out there who have lost their shirts and even their assholes with this effort by the wealthy to turn our country into a PLUTOCRACY. They are relentless in their war against the middle class and we have been losing the battle.
Our President perhaps realizes the situation all too well but he has surrounded himself with a lot of people who may be giving him bad advice. The fear of being labeled a RADICAL-SOCIALIST-PROGRESSIVE makes our President an easy target for blackmail coming from those extreme right wing traitors.
Please Mr. President, stop listening to ill advise and begin acting like you are our CHAMPION, OUR COMMANDER IN CHIEF…and begin to fight…if not now…when? In January 2 013? By then you will be boarding Air Force One on your last ride as President.
