Earlier during this crazy free agent period, the 49ers were considered losers for letting free agent cornerback Nnamdi Asomugha slip through their grasp. Now it seems like San Fran is finally is starting to make a splash in free agency. Their signings have included safeties Donte Whitner and Madieu Williams, cornerback Carlos Rogers, and center Jonathon Goodwin. Now the 49ers free agent class includes receiver Braylon Edwards, who played with the Jets last year. While Edwards has had trouble with dropping passes in previous years with the Browns, he had only one during 2010. The addition of Edwards helps provide insurance at receiver after starter Michael Crabtree went down in player only work outs. It seems that Alex Smith will have no excuses this season with Edwards, Frank Gore, Vernon Davis, Michael Crabtree, and Josh Morgan as targets.
