I started Sunday with my fantasy preview with the NFC North and I will continue today with the AFC North.
Premier Fantasy Players
Baltimore Ravens RB Ray Rice- The Ravens are known for their defense, but Rice is the cornerstone of their offense. Rice carried the ball 307 times last season while scoring 213.60 fantasy points last season. Rice is projected to score 279.70 points in 2011. Rice is one of the top RB's in the league and the Ravens aren't going anywhere in the playoffs without Rice in the backfield. If RB isn't your first choice in the first two rounds, Rice could still be in the third round if you want him to carry the load for your team.
Cleveland Browns RB Peyton Hillis- Madden 2012 comes out next week and for the first time in its history, it will feature a Browns player on the cover. Hillis deserved it and he was a beast in fantasy by scoring 233.92 points. He was one of the biggest sleepers last year, but this year, he could be a bit of a risk. Anyone familiar with the Madden video game knows of the Madden curse and it seems like it is at work again. Hillis is injured and did not practice Tuesday, but is expected to play in the Browns next preseason game. Hillis is projected to score only 170.10 points next season thanks to Madden. Despite the projections, Hillis should have another greater season (don't expect him to carry the load for your team though).
Steelers defense- Heinz field might be the most difficult place to play and that is good news for the Steelers, who have one of the best defensive units in the league. The reason the Steelers are the best defense in all of fantasy football is because when the get a turnover, they usually score. They are projected to score only 160 points this year after having 212 last season. Don't let the projections fool you, this is a great defense and could be the first one gone in your fantasy draft.
Ravens defense- Despite getting older every season, Ed Reed and Ray Lewis keep beating father time. I don't know how much longer it will last, but the Ravens are still one of the best defenses in the league and one of the best in fantasy. Much like the Steelers, the Ravens try to score on defense every time they get their hands on the ball. Thanks to that attitude, the Ravens scored 163 points last season and are projected to score 190 this season. The Ravens defense defense might go early in a lot of drafts, so hope you have a early draft pick in a later round.
Pittsburgh Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger- He might be known for the two Super Bowl rings that he has, but Big Ben is also one of the best QB's to have when it comes to fantasy. RB's and WR's are probably the two most important positions to cover, so you might miss out on guys like Drew Brees or Aaron Rodgers if you choose to go with that strategy. Roethlisberger will be there in the fourth or fifth round (depending on the size of your league) and defiantly carry your fantasy team at QB. We all remember the monster year Roethlisberger had in 2009 when he scored 319.02 points and even though he had a little bit of a decline when it came to numbers last season, don't be afraid to make this guy your starting QB.
Others to consider: Steelers RB Rashard Mendenhall and WR Mike Wallace
Sleepers
Cincinnati Bengals WR A.J. Green (R)- You didn't think I was going to go this whole article without mentioning the Bengals did you? Well its easier then you think. Still, I have to give the rookie from Georgia some slove. This guy is an absolute specimen and that's why the Bengals made him the first receiver taken in the draft. Even though a rookie QB will be throwing to Green, he will be a suitable #4 WR in bigger leagues. Green is only expected to score 104.40 points, but I expect him to blow those projections away.
Baltimore Ravens QB Joe Flacco- The best thing about Flacco is that he continues to play with a chip on his shoulder even though he was a first round draft back in 2008. I think that Flacco is due for his biggest season yet and the Steelers defense might want to keep their mouths shut. The projections agree with me, Flacco is supposed to improve in fantasy points by scoring 294.26 this season. I think that Anquan Boldin and the addition of Lee Evans will help Flacco do even better then that. Making Flacco your #1 QB could be a little bit of a risk, but that is the best thing about fantasy football.
Others to consider: Ravens WR Anquan Boldin
