The last division to cover in my fantasy football preview...
Premier Fantasy Players
San Diego Chargers QB Philip Rivers- Probably the most underrated QB in the whole league, Rivers has been a beast in fantasy football leagues everywhere. Despite being short handed last season with Vincent Jackson holding out for a new contract, Rivers scored 341.60 fantasy points and also completed the ball to 17 different WR's. The great thing about this season for Rivers is that he will have Jackson from week 1, which could easily translate into a 400 point season and possible an MVP campaign. We all know that Aaron Rodgers, Drew Brees, and Tom Brady, will be the first three QB's taken in most drafts, so you could get this Pro Bowl QB for a very low price.
Kansas City Chiefs RB Jamaal Charles- The Chiefs surprised everyone last year when they won the division and Charles also surprised fantasy owners by scoring 237.50 points. Charles nearly had a 1500 yard season to go with 8 total touchdowns (five rushing and three receiving). If the Chiefs want to repeat as AFC West champions, then it will start with their running game and Charles. If you want to win your fantasy league, you will not hesitate to pick this guy if he is available.
Kansas City Chiefs WR Dwayne Bowe- The man to thank for Matt Cassel's giant turnaround last season was Bowe, who had 15 touchdown catches last season. Like Jamaal Charles, Bowe had a breakout fantasy season by scoring 206.60 points. It is shocking to see that Bowe's projected score is at 117.40 points, because I think he is a rising star in a league full of great receivers. Bowe will do better then his projections, so draft this guy to help your receiving core unless you don't like to take risks.
Oakland Raiders RB Darren McFadden- Up until last season, many fans (and fantasy owners) thought McFadden was just another failed project from the Lane Kiffin era. Well it looks like he proved us all wrong in 2010 when he scored 10 touchdowns to go along with his career high 220.40 fantasy points. I watched this guy play live at Qualcomm when the Raiders played the Chargers and Oakland just ran it at will because of the power and speed of McFadden. Even though the Raiders are an unpopular team, McFadden is a popular choice among RB's in fantasy drafts, so don't miss out.
Sleepers
San Diego Chargers RB Ryan Mathews- After a very injury filled, fumble filled, and straight up disappointing season, I expect Ryan Matthews to have his best year as a pro. That is music to fantasy owners ears in deeper leagues. The RB is the most important position in fantasy football, so the more depth, the less you have to worry about wasting a top pick on a one-hit wonder. Matthews is projected to score 197.50 points, which would be a major improvement from a season ago, but should not be any better then a substitution option for your team this year.
Denver Broncos QB Kyle Orton- While most Broncos fans would be much happier with Orton holding a clipboard, fantasy owners are happy to see him back as the Broncos starting QB. Many Broncos fans also regret that the franchise traded Jay Cutler for Orton, but over the past two season, Orton has done better when it comes to fantasy football. In 2010, Orton had 249.92 points and a 2:1 touchdown to interception ratio. Unless you are in a deep league, pass on Orton in the draft and then pick him off waivers if your QB goes down.
