Monday was the day that many players ended their holdouts. 49ers running back Frank reported to camp, while the Eagles wide receiver DeSean Jackson will reportedly be back at camp sometime this week. Monday was also the day CB Asante Samuel reported to camp after missing some of it due to personal reasons. The team Samuel saw coming into camp was different from the one he saw the last time the Eagles stepped on the field in January against the Packers. The Eagles got Domnique Rodgers-Cromartie in a trade for Kevin Kolb and signed Nnamdi Asomugha. As you can tell, that is a very crowded secondary. It could also be to much for the salary cap to handle, especially if the Eagles decide to give Jackson a new contract. Philadelphia is currently three million dollars below the new cap, but Samuel feels like he is not wanted in Philly anymore. "I want to be where I am wanted," said Samuel. "If I'm wanted here, if I'm not appreciated here life goes on. I move on." He doesn't seem like he is to happy and the "Dream team" could already be broken up before they hit the field on September 11th. While Samuel feels like his departure from the Eagles is imminent, Cromartie and Asoumgha want him to stay. It will not be up to those two, however, it will be up to the Eagles if they want to use Samuel as trade bait or try to re-structure other players contracts in order to keep him. Lets say the Eagles officially put him on the trading block, then their phones will be ringing quite a bit. One team that should (or I should say needs) to get Samuel is the 49ers. San Francisco released starting CB Nate Clements on Friday and failed to re-sign him, leading to his departure to the Bengals. The 49ers released Clements in order to sign Nnamdi Asomugha, but failed. The team also failed to sign Antonio Cromartie and Johnathon Joseph. While the team is looking into signing Redskins free agent Carlos Rogers, he is not the answer for the battered secondary. I know first year head coach Jim Harbaugh wants to build this team through the draft, but this is about giving hope to fans and a reason to watch your team every Sunday. The other three teams in the NFC West have already made a splash in free agency and trade, its time to stop being patient and start putting a team together that can win in 2011. The most experienced defensive back on the 49ers roster right now is Reggie Smith. You can not convince me that he is the guy they want to help improve a passing defense that ranked 24th in the league last year. The new management and coaching staff by the bay is not giving many 49ers fans, including myself, a reason to look forward to the season
