After a week of puzzling moves, the 49ers filled a need at cornerback when they signed Redskins free agent Carlos Rogers to a one year deal. Even though Rogers has only eight interceptions in six seasons, Rogers helped Washington's defense finish 10th best in the league in 2009. The 49ers originally cut Nate Clements to sign Nnamdi Asomugha, Johnathon Joseph, or Antonio Cromartie, but they all departed to other teams. Clements then later on signed with the Bengals, leaving a glaring hole in the 49ers secondary. While Rogers is not a playmaker, he will fill that hole in 2011 and I expect the 49ers to choose a cornerback in next years draft. The Niners have not made a splash this offseason, but they are interested in Chargers free agent receiver Malcom Floyd due to the injury to Michael Crabtree.
