With the lockout FINALLY lifted, here are five things that are bound to happen this year.
Kevin Kolb gets dealt to Arizona- Back when the lockout was young, I guaranteed that Kolb would end up with the Cardinals. I am sticking to my word and expect it to happen either Tuesday or Wednesday for sure. The only thing that might take it a little longer is rather the Cardinals want to give the Eagles a first round pick or not. Arizona would be smart to do it because if they don't, then they will be playing him twice a year for the next ten seasons. Also if they want to keep a certain WR happy, then this deal will go through.
Asomugha will be making it rain- No matter where he lands this offseason, Nnamdi Asomugha will defiantly be rolling in the dough. Asomugha is no doubt the second best CB in the league and all 32 teams could use him, making him the most valuable free agent on the market. I did say that Asomugha will end up in Dallas because they aren't afraid of spending the big bucks, but you can make a case that the other 31 teams fit his game. The other top teams in the Asomugha market; Texans, Jets, 49ers, and the Lions.
One bad move, the Jets are history- Free agency starts Friday. A day that is more important to the Jets then any other. Why? Let me give you some names. Santonio Holmes, Braylon Edwards, Brad Smith, and Antonio Cromartie. Smith will probably leave because he is only the Jets #3 WR and is a waste of cap space. Cromartie said that the Jets won't get a "hometown discount" and he is also probably on his way out the door. I'm not worried about the defense though, because they have the best CB in the game. If the Jets and Rex Ryan want to keep their word and win the Super Bowl, it all starts with the QB. Giving up Mark Sanchez's two best weapons would be a mistake. Holmes has already drawn the interest of the Redskins and if they lose him, they will have to dive into a WR market that is small. If the Jets don't re-sign their two big WR's, you can say bye-bye Super Bowl.
One of these guys will surprise you- Every year there are always a player and team that surprises the fans. Last year that player was Josh Freeman and that team was his Buccaneers. Lets get to the two leading candidates for surprise player, Terrell Owens and Donovan McNabb. Owens is a free agent but he put up good numbers last season with the Bengals (72 receptions for 983 yards and nine touchdowns). Due to injury, I don't expect Owens to get signed until right before the last preseason game. As for McNabb, he did not play will for the Redskins and a QB that was supposed to be the answer has no answer of where he will end up. Even though he has been practicing with Cardinals WR Larry Fitzgerald, I think he will end up with the Vikings. If that happens, McNabb could mentor young QB Christain Ponder and also keep Sidney rice in the Twin Cities. One of these guys will also be comeback player of the year no matter where they end up.
The Lions will actually go to the playoffs*- That asterisk is only if Matthew Stafford stays healthy for all 16 games. Detroit already has the best second year player in the game, not to mention another possible defensive rookie of the year in Nick Fairley. As for offense, the Lions have a WR called Megatron, who despite the bad QB situation, is one of the best in the game. In the NFC North, you know that the Packers will win the division if they stay healthy. As for wild card, I think the Bears got lucky by avoiding injuries and its time for the Lions to rise again. Wait, were they ever on top?
