This has been a crazy week of free agency and trades. Even though big names like Nnamdi Asomugha and Kevin Kolb are gone, teams can look to these players for some help.
5. Plaxico Burress- Before going to prison, Burress was one of the biggest weapons for the Giants and QB Eli Manning. Burress helped the G-Men pull of one of the biggest upsets in Super Bowl XLII against the Patriots. Even though Burress is 33, he is getting attention from many teams other then the Giants. Teams like the Steelers, 49ers, Rams, and Eagles have also shown interest. Wherever Burress ends up he will definitely help a team win if he can keep his act together.
Destination: Eagles
4. Ty Warren- One of the only remaining players left from the Patriots dynasty, Warren looks for work elsewhere as a eight year veteran. New England released Warren after he failed his physical on Friday. On Saturday night he met with the Denver Broncos even though he would either play for the Cowboys or the Texans. Warren grew up in Texas and also went to Texas A&M. Even though Warren has lost some speed in his step, playing opposite of Mario Williams could definitely help Houston out.
Destination: Texans
3. Kyle Orton- Once the answer at QB for the Broncos after they traded Jay Cutler to the Bears, Orton seems like he is on his way out of Denver. The Dolphins seemed like the only team interested and were ready to trade for Orton, but the talks have gone dead. While they are dead, it is not unrealistic to think that a deal between Miami and Denver can get done in the next couple of weeks. Even though the Bengals have not been in the talks for Orton, they need to start negotiating because they only have rookie Andy Dalton at QB.
Destination: Broncos
2. Antonio Cromartie- With Nnamdi Asomugha and Johnathon Joseph off the market, Cromartie is the best CB left for teams to sign. After the Jets lost in the Asomugah sweepstakes, they turned their attention to signing free agents in the secondary. New York already re-signed safety Eric Smith and Cromartie could be next. Cromartie did say that he would not give any teams, "a hometown discount," and could go for the big money with other teams. Teams like the 49ers, who just released Nate Clements, could really use Cromartie for their secondary even though he could be a distraction for first year head coach Jim Harbaugh.
Destination: Jets
1. Asante Samuel- Before the Eagles signed Nnamdi Asomugha, this was not going to happen. Now problems with Asomugha's and Desean Jackson's contract has emerged. This could lead Philadelphia to trade Samuel and break up the "dream team" before it gets on the field. Samuel has not shown up to training camp for "personal reasons" and could be in another uniform in the next couple of weeks. The 49ers names again show up because of their glaring need at the position. Of course the Cardinals and Cowboys could also use Samuel, but not as much as San Francisco.
Destination: 49ers
What are some other big names out there? Tell me in the comment section below.
