UP UNTIL RECENTLY, BOTH WERE INTRINSICALLY TIED
Now I see a struggle…more like the mother of all conflicts. We have been able to reconcile the needs and wishes of the wealthy, the corporations because they did support our concept of democracy and the idea that WE THE PEOPLE of America had the freedom to seek wealth, work hard and accumulate a fortune…it was open to almost everyone in our country and it did produce some outstanding leaders and self-made individuals who gained fame and fortune.
But something changed; there was a substantial shift in the ambition and the expectations of those who were on top of the food chain…to put it bluntly: they became GREEDY. Then these privileged individuals and corporations began a concerted effort to dominate politics, to gain more power and to do away with any and all regulations that prevented them from acting unethically, illegally and immorally…and that is not hard to fathom considering that GREED is the ultimate corrupter.
Political Action Committees were established, lobbyists descended upon our legislature and succeeded in tucking them into their pockets…save for a few honest ones, they all fell one by one to the whims of Wall Street, the banks and many behemoth corporations. They became then “THE UNTOUCHABLES” and that was sealed into a reality when the Supreme Court, with a majority of activist, right wing Supremes made one decision after another that upset the balance. We then found ourselves where a corporation was considered a human being, where the welfare and well being of the American people took a back seat to the needs and whims of the wealthy.
Meanwhile, the wealthy began to increase their share of wealth and the corporations also began to make record profits while the rest of Americans were not even keeping up with the increase in the cost of living.
Sadly, this whole concerted effort from the wealthy and corporations to have absolute control of our government has brought us to the point where not only do we see the middle class decimated but we also see some serious challenges on our right to vote, to think and to pursue the American Dream. What we have ended up with is a welfare state for the rich and the corporations; and yes, you might say that this is class warfare, but the rich have been winning it so far.
We see it surface in states where Republican governors were elected, we see it in the holding the American people hostage to Republicans who want to have it their way or they will actually destroy our economy.
I just hope that the American people will wake up in time, that no matter how much the Republicans will try to curtail voting and destroy labor unions, to sabotage our President and to create one crisis after another while trying to blame it on him…I do hope that people will see right through this despicable and odious attack on our DEMOCRACY.
