Today against the Tampa Bay Rays, one of the greatest baseball players of all time Derek Jeter swung his way into the 3,000 hit club. Jeter became the first Yankee ever do that and he has had a great career. Which got me to thinking, why not look back at great careers in NFL history.
One of the most annoying NFL players in history, Brett Favre holds virtually every passing record known to man. That includes most yards (71,838), touchdowns (508), attempts (10,169), completions (6,300), and even interceptions (336). Even though Favre was a fun player to watch, I'm sure every NFL fan is happy to see Ol' #4 ride off into the sunset (with some pants this time).
Considered the greatest running back to many Cowboy fans, Emmit Smith stayed true to his word by becoming one of the best of all time. Smith holds records for most rushing attempts (4,409), yards (18,355), and touchdowns (164). Even though Smith is one of the greatest RB's of all time, Ladanian Tomlinson is right on the cusp of becoming the NFL's all-time rushing leader.
Hands down the greatest football player of all time, Jerry Rice holds numerous NFL records. That includes receptions (1,549), yards (22,895), touchdowns (197), yards gained from scrimmage (23,540), and most total touchdowns (208). Even though someone might come along and actually break some of Rice's records, they will never match the work ethic or skill that he had. To me, there will never be another Jerry Rice.
Other career records:
George Blanda- Most seasons (26)
Morten Anderson- Most points (2,544), most field goals attempted (709), and most field goals made (565)
Peyton Manning- Largest touchdowns pass-interception differential (399-198)
Aaron Rodgers- Lowest percentage passes had intercepted (1.99)
Paul Krause- Most interceptions (81)
Rod Woodson- Most interceptions returned for a touchdown (12)
Devin Hester- Most punt returns for a touchdown (10)
Josh Cribbs- Most kick returns for a touchdown (8)
Bruce Smith- Most sacks (200)
Jason Taylor- Most fumble return touchdowns (6)
